Visinin-like protein 1 (VLP-1, also known as VILIP-1) is a calcium-signaling molecule expressed in neurons. Meta-analysis of seven studies showed that VLP-1 in the cerebrospinal fluid is significantly higher in people with Alzheimer’s disease than in control subjects (effect size = 1.546, p <0.0001).
